They really are Immortal!

Here they are… the Eight Immortals of Taoism in their full glory. The process took around 4 weeks, but looking at them all together now as a complete set makes every moment worth it.

Every figurine had slightly different problems and needed to be considered individually, but certain common issues can also be outlined: they all had broken elements, they were all in need of cleaning and they all had damaged flaking paint (to a greater or lesser extent). Some of them had also been poorly repaired in the past, creating more work in undoing some of the repairs (see previous post on the figurines’ condition for more detail).

So here is what we did:

  • Solvents were tested on the figurines’ edges and back to make sure none of the colours ran during cleaning. As a result, IMS was chosen…
